Korir beat the Canadian during last year’s World Championships to take the top prize and Arop was forced to finish second.

Reigning World 800m champion Marco Arop believes that there is something about the name ‘Emmanuel’ as he drew comparisons between Emmanuel Wanyonyi and Emmanuel Korir.

Korir beat the Canadian during last year’s World Championships to take the top prize and Arop was forced to finish second.

Korir has been facing an injury setback and going to the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary, he was not fit enough to defend his title but Wanyonyi represented Team Kenya well with a commanding second-place finish.

He has also beaten Arop in Diamond League Meetings, the latest two being the Meetings in Xiamen, China, and Eugene, USA.

“Wanyonyi is one of the greatest competitors I have run against. You know before it was Emmanuel Korir then this season Wanyonyi, I don’t know what it is about the name Emmanuel but I just can’t seem to get ahead of them...I’m just glad the one race that mattered the most I was able to come out on top.

However, he has won most races and I have to give the credit to him,” he said.

The Canadian was also happy with breaking the national record time that he disclosed he had been chasing for some time.

He noted that, however, he was not happy losing some races and come next season, he will be keen to do better.

“It was great…it has been an amazing season. I have fallen short a couple of times since the season started including today but I’m glad I got the national record,” he said.
