Abel Kirui has stepped away from the track after two decades, embracing a new chapter that has called for his presence beyond competitive running.
Abel Kirui has opened up about the major reason that led to his retirement, revealing that his age is not among the factors that forced him to make the decision.
The two-time world champion revealed that he has landed a major role with his employer, the Administration Police (AP) service.
Previously, Abel Kirui worked as an inspector, a role he was promoted to in September 2011, shortly after his victory at the World Championships marathon in Daegu, South Korea. He also worked as a Sergeant in the AP.

The former Olympic silver medallist revealed that he will now serve as the Senior Superintendent of Police and will specifically be promoted to the role of deputy director in the sports and chaplaincy docket.
Abel Kirui pointed out that he wanted to be present during the Athletics Kenya World Championships trials to witness the moment one more time.
Kirui revealed that the role is a bit demanding, and he decided to put his spikes aside and serve the young people, just like he was served and given ample time when he was an active athlete.

World Athletics is monitoring the Grand Slam Track controversy closely as concerns grow over unpaid athlete prize money.
Kirui competed at the Cali Marathon and finished ninth in a time of 2:21:56. He revealed that he would have continued competing for more years but added that it is now time for him to serve the people.
“My last race, I was number nine with minimal training and I could have done 20 more years and I have to value others and value my fellow Kenyans,” Abel Kirui said.
“I have to serve like I have been served in the past years. I give credit to my family, mum and coaches, and the APS family has served me for the last 20 years.”
