After winning the 200m race at the Kip Keino Classic, Ferdinand Omanyala has hinted at running more 200m races this season.

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala has opened up on plans to be competing more in the 200m races this season.

During the World Athletics Relays national trials at the Nyayo National Stadium, Omanyala brought the stadium to a standstill when he won the 200m in 20.80 before claiming top honours in the 4x100m men’s relay.

The Commonwealth Games champion has now hinted that his coach Geoffrey Kimani plans to make him a 200m runner in the near future.

“I think the plan for my coach is to see me run the 200m more but he is yet to put it out there, so we shall see. But I’m open to it and training is going on very well, if the body can run, then I let it run,” Omanyala said after winning the 200m race.

He lamented about the poor weather that made him run a slower time but believes that when the conditions are right, he will certainly post great times.

Commenting on the Kip Keino Classic, the 2022 Africa 100m champion also noted that once he is done with the World Athletics Relays, he will be keen to focus on the continental showpiece fully.

“I thought it could be faster than that but we shall look at the factors, it’s been great and I’m looking forward to doing great things," he added.

“This year, we are not placing any targets and we just want to go out there and run…having targets put so much pressure on you."

Meanwhile, Omanyala has enjoyed an amazing indoor season and he will be keen to continue the hot streak in the outdoor season starting with the World Relays in the Bahamas.
