Bromfield finished a disappointing fifth in the final of the 400m event at the New Balance Indoor Tour over the weekend.

Noah Lyles’ Jamaican girlfriend Junelle Bromfield had to settle for fifth place in the final of the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in the 400m event which took place in Brighton over the weekend.

American sprinter Kendall Ellis claimed victory with a time of 52.77 seconds, while Bromfield lagged behind at 53.60 seconds. This performance marked a deviation from her previous impressive times, leaving room for improvement.

Last year, Bromfield had showcased her prowess with times around 51 and 52 seconds. However, in Brighton, her performance fell short of expectations.

The defeat will certainly sting considering that she is a naturally competitive person, as was showcased last December when, alongside Lyles, she won a family Gingerbread House competition.

However, she will be keen to bounce back from that disappointment, as she faced adversity before, notably losing her mother to cancer just before the Tokyo Olympics.

Despite the profound grief, Bromfield persevered, participating in the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 and securing bronze alongside Shericka Jackson.

This tenacity continued in 2022, earning her a silver medal in the same event at the Eugene World Championships and a gold medal at the World Indoor Championship.

Junelle is currently ranked 32nd in the world women's 400m according to the World Athletics site. The highest rank the sprinter has ever achieved was 21.

Bromfield's best time in the 400m is 50.77, which she clocked at the National Stadium in Kingston on June 27, 2021.
