Triple world champion Noah Lyles has opened up about his relationship with compatriot Christian Coleman.

Two-time world 200m champion Noah Lyles has opened up about his relationship with compatriot and 60m world record holder Christian Coleman.

In an interview with Citius Mag, Lyles lauded Coleman for setting the bar high and always striving for greatness even after achieving numerous things.

The triple world champion further explained that Coleman is making a name for himself and is one of the greatest sprinters of all time. Speaking about their rivalry, Lyles noted that they are certainly not friends but they respect each other.

He observed that 100m runners are not usually friends but they would occasionally share salutations to each other after races but they never keep conversations going off the track.

“In terms of how good he is, I mean, he is ranked in the top 10 in the men’s 100m. There’s nothing much that needs to be said. He is a world champion and has proven it himself and he is already on the top all-time list.

“That’s something we all strive for, he is making a name for himself and that’s what we all want. He is continuing to improve because he wants to be the best.

“I’d say it’s a rivalry…definitely not friendship, I don’t think any of the 100m guys are really friends. We all are very cordial, you know, we all know each other and we’d say hi and keep it moving.

“It’s different in the 200m though, I feel like everybody is a lot closer and in the 400m everybody’s friends but in the 100m I don’t know, everybody wants to be friends but it’s okay because you know that’s the mindset you just have to go having into the race but we all respect each other,” Lyles said.

Opening up about sprinting in the US, he singled out the likes of Fred Kerley, Coleman, and Erriyon Knighton, stating that they have helped shape how the world views sprinting.

“Personally, I feel like we are in a very good space since we have had the past three world champions from the US. When we were in Budapest, we had me, Coleman, and Fred all top three world champions and we have run fast times,” he said.
