Christian Coleman was in action at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational Meet but failed to live up to the billing and he has finally opened up on what really happened.
World 60m record holder Christian Coleman was a pre-race favourite at the Jamaica Athletics Invitational meet but he failed to execute the race well, a move that cost him a podium finish.
In the race that was won by Great Britain’s Zharnel Hughes with his compatriot, American Fred Kerley finishing second, Coleman could only afford a fifth-place finish, clocking 20.46 to cross the finish line.
The race was his second 200m of the season following his impressive second-place finish at the Miramar Invitational where he clocked 20.43 to cross the finish line.
In a post-race interview, the World Indoor champion admitted that he had a solid 130m but faltered as the race intensified but promised to go back to the drawing board and run better and faster times as he eyes a slot in the Paris 2024 Olympics.

“I feel like I set it up better and I got well and set is up how I wanted to run but I now know what I need to keep working on and improving to keep getting better and stronger," Coleman said.
“I feel like I had a solid 130m…speed endurance just got to keep coming back and back but I don’t know, I feel like that’s what this kind of races are for.
“High intensity and running against the best guys in the world and I don’t know if I can keep improving from there and I wish I could have a little faster if I executed a little bit better. I just take it how it is and go back to the drawing board.”
He also insisted that he has a better chance to make the cut to the Olympic team in the 200m as well, despite the rise of other Americans who are posting quite faster times.
Meanwhile, Coleman also noted that competing in Jamaica usually feels great with the fans coming out to support them and spreading positive energy.
