Fred Kerley's hopes to shatter the world record have been shattered following an injury setback that has forced him to withdraw from the Diamond League Meeting in Stockholm.

Fred Kerley’s world record hopes have been shattered as he has been forced to withdraw from the Diamond League Meeting in Stockholm, scheduled for June 2, due to an injury setback.

Kerley had made a bold declaration that he would attack Usain Bolt’s 100m world record when he steps on the track but his hopes have been cut short and he will have to wait until he full recovers.

The message came from the race organisers, who noted that the 2022 world champion has withdrawn from the meet. In a statement, they said: “Fred Kerley has had problems with injuries during the last week's competition and training which has limited him.

“That is why he has chosen to cancel his competition at the BAUHAUS gala on June 2, his manager announces."

Meanwhile, trailblazing youngster Letsile Tebogo had also been confirmed for the meet, but he will most likely have to withdraw following his mother’s untimely demise.

However, despite the setbacks, other stars have also confirmed participation in the Diamond League including two-time world 200m champion Shericka Jackson, who is just fresh-from winning the 200m at the Diamond League Meeting in Rabat.

The world 100m silver medallist started her season with a win in the 100m at the JAAA All Comers Series #1, after delaying her long-awaited season opener.

Jackson will be up against Great Britain’s sprinting ace Daryll Neita, who has also been off to a great start to her season. Ivorian sprinting star Marie Jose Ta Lou-Smith will also be in the mix, running the 100m.
