Following Jamaica’s relay disappointment, Yohan Blake has reflected on the setback and has chosen to stay focused.

The second fastest man alive, Yohan Blake, has broken his silence following his performance at the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou, China, last weekend.

Yohan Blake was part of Jamaica’s 4x100m men’s relay team, but they failed to live up to the billing, following two failed attempts.

In the heats of the men’s 4x100m, there was a botched baton exchange between Yohan Blake and Julian Forte, with the Jamaicans failing to finish the race.

They were given another chance in the repechage round, but Julian Forte pulled up an injury and could not pass the baton to Yohan Blake in time, sabotaging Jamaica’s chances of qualifying for the World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, through the event.

Through a video shared on his Instagram handle, Yohan Blake urged his fans and other athletes not to focus on what people always have to say when it comes to executing their goals.

He urged them to always focus on making themselves proud and limit people’s opinions in their lives, revealing that whether they do something or not, people will always talk.

During the reflection, Yohan Blake added that they should face their fears boldly, and whether they are doing good or bad, they should face the obstacles head-on.

“I was just here at home watching some animation, and something came to me…whatever you’re doing in life, don’t do it to please people because at the end of the day, who’s going to be there for you? That person in the mirror,” Yohan Blake said in the video.

“Keep fighting that good fight, nothing in life is a straight road. We have failures, and I embrace failures. I embrace the bad days because they make you stronger, and it really does. It helps you to dig deep, so no matter what you’re going through, do it to please you.

“Because when you’re failing, it’s only going to be that person in the mirror. Remember this, success has so many fathers, failure has none.”

According to Yohan Blake, people are allowed to please themselves only and God and they are not obliged to focus on what others will say.

The two-time Olympic silver medallist added that people should normalise thinking highly of themselves, since that is one of the major ways to grow.

“You are what you think you are, not what people think you are. Don't live your life to please people. Please God and yourself because at the end, who is there? Just ask yourself that,” Yohan Blake said in the caption.

Despite the disappointment at the World Athletics Relays, Yohan Blake has opted to choose growth over grief and use the failure as a fuel for what lies ahead.
