Ferdinand Omanyala cut a forlorn figure as he reacted to Kenya's poor showing on the first day of the World Relay Championships in the Bahamas.

Africa’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala was lost for words after Kenya’s 4x100m relay team registered a disappointing last place finish in their heat at the ongoing World Athletics Relays in Bahamas.

Omanyala anchored his team that also incuded Hesbon Ochieng, Mark Otieno and Meshack Babu, but they finished with a time of 39.38 in the end.

Both Japan and China finished first and second respectively, qualifying for the Olympics in the process, while South Africa, which had Akani Simbine, could only finish third in 38.83.

The result now means that the country will have to wait a little longer before they gain qualification for the Olympic games.

Speaking to the media after the match, a visibly agitated Ferdinand Omanyala expressed his frustration at the side’s failure to achieve its target.

“I haven’t seen it well because there was so much happening in the middle of the race, but our position was not good,” Omanyala said.

Omanyala just could not find answeres for his side’s disappointment, but just vowed to get his team to fight on until they achieve their goal.

“We prepared well. We were expecting a faster time but I do not know what happened.

“Just keep working hard. Our day will come.”

Individually, Omanyala, 28, is  hoping for glory at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, the African and Commonwealth champion eyeing Africa's first-ever gold in the men's 100m - and first podium since Freddie Fredericks (Namibia) at Atlanta 1996.
