Thirteen years since his unfortunate and untimely death, Samuel Wanjiru's legacy still lives on.

On May 15, 2011, the world woke up to shocking news that Olympic champion Samuel Wanjiru had passed away in tragic fashion.

Wanjiru had reportedly fallen off a balcony at his house in Nyahururu and although the accounts leading to his untimely death, aged just 24, have never fully been unearthed, Kenya and indeed the world had been robbed off a massive talent.

Born on November 10, 1986, in Nyahururu, Wanjiru emerged as a beacon of excellence in the world of distance running, leaving an indelible mark on the sport before his untimely passing. by the time of his death, he had won the Olympics marathon gold in an Olympics record in Beijing 2008, won the Chicago Marathon twice (2009 and 2010) as well as in London (2009).
