Boniface Ambani revealed that he has been in close communication with Lewis Bandi, and even during the first two CHAN 2024 matches that Harambee Stars played, and he was not in the starting line-up, he encouraged the defender.

Harambee Stars claimed a solid 1-0 win over two-time champions DR Congo before holding Angola to a 1-1 draw in their second match.

Lewis Bandi would then feature in Harambee Stars’ third match against two-time champions Morocco, where they claimed a 1-0 victory.

Ambani revealed that he was not aware that Lewis Bandi would be signing with Gor Mahia, and when he was unveiled by K’Ogalo, he was caught by surprise.

“Lewis Bandi's case is very disappointing. I have maintained constant contact with the player, including the two opening games for Kenya where he didn't play, continuously encouraging while reminding him that his time will eventually come,” Boniface Ambani said in an exclusive interview with Fred Arocho.

“I was surprised like anyone else to see him with Gor officials signing the contract, he never joined the rest when Leopards started training or even the mandatory medical test before renewal of his contract at the season opener, all we can do now is wish him all the best."

Now, AFC Leopards will be in the hunt to strengthen their midfield and defence after letting go of one of their vital players. Gor Mahia have made important signings so far, as they look to make a mark next season. Michael Kibwage, Bryne Omondi, and Siraj Mohammed have also joined Gor Mahia.
