Benjamin Henrichs: 'It was a brutal and bitter evening'
RB Leipzig defender Benjamin Henrichs has lamented his team’s fate after a humbling 7-0 loss to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the UEFA Champions League round of 16.
Henrichs and Leipzig humiliated in UCL
The 26-year-old defender was on the pitch for 80 minutes and witnessed first-hand the destruction Erling Haaland and Manchester City wrought on his Leipzig side.
There was little Henrichs or any of his Leipzig teammates could do as Manchester City romped to an impressive 7-0 victory with Haaland scoring five times.
Speaking after the game, Henrichs bemoaned the nature and outcome of the match, describing it as the worst defeat of his career.
He said, "I have never before lost 7-0 in my career. It's a brutal and bitter evening for us.”
Heinrichs praises ‘strong’ Erling Haaland
Henrichs also praised Manchester City’s five-star hero, Haaland, describing him as a forward with a versatile skillset who will be a handful for any defence.
"Haaland is physically very strong,” Henrichs said, before adding, “He has a lot to offer; it is very difficult to defend him."
Henrichs will be glad that the ordeal of facing Haaland is over, as Leipzig can now focus all their attention on the Bundesliga and the race to be in the UCL next season.
