Haaland reveals what he told Guardiola after Leipzig substitution
Manchester City’s record-breaker, Erling Haaland has revealed what he said to coach Pep Guardiola after being substituted in Manchester City’s 7-0 UEFA Champions League win over RB Leipzig.
Haaland makes history with Manchester City
Haaland had scored five goals already, setting a record for the fastest 30 goals in UCL history, as well as joining Lionel Messi as the only two players to score five goals in the UCL knockout rounds.
He also claimed his 39th goal of the 2022/23 season, becoming the first player in Manchester City’s history to score that many goals.
Haaland could have reached 40 or more goals against Leipzig, and could have also become the first player to score six goals in the UCL knockout round, but he was taken off early, in the 63rd minute, which appeared to rub him the wrong way initially.
What Haaland said to Pep after substitution
After the game, Haaland revealed what he said to Guardiola when he was substituted as the two shared an embrace.
He said, "I told him [Pep Guardiola] I would love to score a double hat-trick but what can I do?"
Haaland would still have been happy with his haul, and with the three records he set on the night, as well as his role in helping Manchester City reach the quarterfinal after an impressive win.
