'Unreal player!' - Reactions as Erling Haaland steals headlines in Man City's 7-0 hammering of Leipzig in UCL
Erling Haaland was the star of the show as Manchester City demolished RB Leipzig 7-0 on Tuesday night to qualify for the Champions League quarter finals.
City came into the game having been held in the reverse fixture in Germany.
The defending Premier League champions were hoping to silence doubters and once again prove their Champions League credentials in a trick second-leg tie.
However, it ended up being perhaps the most one-sided match in the Champions League this season.
After creating lots of chances, the hosts were finally able to get the party started in the 22nd minute after Erling Haaland blasted home a penalty to put City ahead in the tie on aggregate.
Two minutes later, the prolific Norwegian headed home for City’s second after a moment of defensive weakness from the visitors.
Leipzig offered no real threat, as Haaland would grab City’s third and his hat-trick in stoppage time in the first period to practically sum up the game with the hosts going into the break with a three-goal lead on aggregate.
Second Half
City continued from where they left off in the first period as Guardiola urged his men to keep up with their relentless attacking.
Leipzig were bombarded with series of attempts on goal from City and once again found themselves conceding just five minutes after the restart.
Ilkay Gundogan fired home for City’s fifth before Haaland grabbed hos fourth goal and City’s fifth in the 53rd minute of the match.
It was a contest no more as the visitors only sought to reduce the embarrassment.
But their misery would be compounded even further as Haaland found the back of the net again in the 57th minute for City’s sixth goal and his fifth of the match.
Kevin de Bruyne who was brilliant all night for City completed the demolition in the 92nd minute of stoppage time to seal an emphatic 7-0 win for the English champions against the Bundesliga side.
