Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo Rallies His Troops After Fine Run Earns Him Coach of the Month Award
APS Bomet coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo may have virtually secured the safety of his team but he is sounding a cautious tone to his players.
Pamzo has overseen a remarkable turnaround with his team on a five-match winning run, three of which were secured last month, to earn him the SportPesa League coach of the Month award for April.
APS Boment beat Mathare United 2-0 on Sunday, the seventh straight match in which they have kept a clean sheet, having started May with a 1-0 victory against KCB. Pamozo began the current great run with a 1-0 win against Ulinzi Stars before his team thrashed his ex-employers Posta Rangers 3-0 and completed April with a 1-0 triumph past Sofapaka.
The experienced tactician had no equals in April and bagged the monthly award ahead of Mara Sugar’s Francis Xavier.
“Today being Mother’s Day, I want to dedicate this award to my beloved wife, Mama Denzel,” an emotional Omollo said when he received his award on Sunday, paying tribute to his late wife.

“She was an inspiration to me and supported me throughout my coaching journey. I miss her, and this award is for her.”
Even though Omollo’s team are in 12th position with 37 points, five away from the dreaded relegation zone, the Gor Mahia legend wants them to maintain the same momentum in their remaining three games.
“We know there’s still work to do to secure safety, so I’m challenging the boys to keep working hard. There is still a lot of football to play, and anything can happen,” added Omollo, whose award came with a customised trophy and Ksh75,000 from league sponsors SportPesa.
APS Bomet, who were among the newly-promoted teams this season, had endured a poor run of results that threatened to send them straight back to the second tier, but ex-Tusker FC coach Omollo has steadied the ship.
Their remaining matches are against Bandari, AFC Leopards and Tusker FC, and they could have a say in the title race as Ingwe are battling with Gor Mahia for the FKF Premier League crown.
