Obiero spent the second half of the just-concluded season on loan at Tranmere Rovers, where he made 13 appearances and scored two goals, that spell also earning him a spot in the Harambee Stars squad.

After his loan stint, it was not clear if Orient would keep him or allow him to seek regular football elsewhere but the club has affirmed its faith in him by naming him among those who have a future with them.

“Professional players under contract for 2026/27: Noah Phillips, Killian Cahill, James Morris, Will Forrester, Michael Craig, Rarmani Edmonds-Green, Phil Chinedu, Anduan Hajdini, Sean Clare, Ollie O’Neill, Idris El Mizouni, Demetri Mitchell, Tyreeq Bakinson, Azeem Abdulai, Dylan Levitt, Charlie Wellens, Zech Obiero, Dan Carter, Theo Archibald*, Aaron Connolly, Dom Ballard, Josh Koroma, Sonny Perkins, Lemar Gordon,” the club said via a statement on its website.

Looking to Become a Leyton Orient Regular

Orient have released five players while putting as many on the transfer market and intend to hand a new contract to defender Dan Happe.

It is a massive statement of faith in Obiero, who has a contract at Orient until 2028, and he will be hoping that it begins a new chapter for him at the club where he has not been among the regulars in previous years.

Having come through the youth ranks at the club, Obiero joined the senior team in 2022 but struggled to break through, having to contend with loan spells at Cheshunt, Chelmsford City and most-recently Rovers.

Overall, he has made 40 appearances for Orient, including nine this season, before he went on loan to Rovers. Obiero has scored just once for the London-based club.
