Wydad coach Amine Benhachem and captain Nordin Amrabat believe they have prepared well to secure all three points against Kenyan side Nairobi United in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Moroccan giants host Nairobi United in their opening match of the group stage at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday night and are confident of securing all three points.

Former Watford winger Amrabat says the international break has been a blessing to the squad as it has given most of them time to tune up ahead of the meeting with the Kenyan side.

“We want to have a good result, we want to win the Confederation Cup so it is important to have a good start, we play at home in front of our fans,” Amrabat said at the pre-match press conference on Saturday.

“We had a good 10 days, the coach prepared us very well. We saw a video of them, but we will play at home with our fans and the only clear thing with Wydad is three points.”

Benhachem, meanwhile, feels his team have to approach the match with caution as the Kenyan team have a number of strengths, key among them their ability to punish them on the counter attack.

“We saw they are clumsy and they are rapid on transition and can create problems for us. We need to maintain possession, create spaces and score goals,” said Benhachem.

“We also have to be careful when we push numbers forward, they can find spaces and punish us on the counter but we have prepared well and can score God willing. The atmosphere and mood in the team is great.”

Naibos are returning to North Africa for the second time in one month after eliminating Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel at the second preliminary round in late October and will be hoping for another fruitful trip.

Wydad, who are top of the Morocco league standings, however, pose a big threat with Amrabat, former Yanga forward Stephane Aziz Ki and South African star Thembinkosi Lorch forming part of a potent attack for the three-time CAF Champions League winners.
