Nairobi United coach Salim Ali has opened up over what gives him hope that his team will secure a win against star-studded Moroccan giants Wydad AC on Sunday.

FKF Premier League new boys Nairobi United are preparing for the biggest match in their history as they are set to face Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in the CAF Confederation Cup.

Naibos, as they are popularly known, will face Wydad in the group stages after making history by making it this far in their debut campaign both in the Kenyan top flight and on the continent.

However, even the most optimistic of Nairobi United fan know they face an uphill task in Casablanca against a star-studded Wydad team that has the likes ex-Chelsea and Ajax forward Hakim Ziyech, former Watford defender Nordin Amrabat, in-form South African Thembinkosi Lorch and ex-Yanga star Stephane Aziz Ki.

Wydad are 22-time Morocco champions and have also won the CAF Champions League three times and facing them will be a tough task for Nairobi United, who are in this competition after winning last season’s FKF Cup, when they were still a second tier club.

What is Giving Nairobi United Confidence?

However, coach Salim Ali says they have done their homework and know which Wydad buttons to press for them to get a positive result at the hostile Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.

“We have prepared enough, coming all the way up to here means we have prepared enough to face one of the biggest clubs in Africa on Sunday,” Ali told Flashscore.

“The mood in camp is fantastic, I can see the players are psyched up, they are trying to understand playing under floodlights, this is the second training session, and hopefully we will have another one before the game.”

“Wydad are a very experienced team, with a very good forward line, but they have weaknesses in their defence line, so we will try and take advantage of their weaknesses, and try to minimise their strengths to our advantage,” Ali added while revealing what gives him hopes for all three points.

Naibois Set to Miss Key Player in Morocco

“We know it is going to be a difficult game, but what matters is 90 minutes, we have to be prepared enough, and work well during the game, and this of course, will make our work easier during the game.”

“We are okay, we don’t have any fitness concerns, the only challenge we have is Yusuf Mainge is out, he won’t play any part because of the three yellow cards he has accumulated so far, so he will definitely be out for this match.”

Nairobi United, who eliminated Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel in the second preliminary round, landed in a tough group that also includes Congolese side Maniema Union and Azam FC from Tanzania.
