Wydad vs Nairobi United: Preview, Team News, Time and Where to Watch

Nairobi United take on Moroccan giants Wydad in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday night and here is all the information about the clash.

Nairobi United will embark on one of their toughest assignments as they begin their CAF Confederation Cup group stage campaign against Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club.

The FKF Premier League new boys can expect a hostile reception at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca on Sunday night and even though they played in North Africa this season, what they witnessed in Sousse, Tunisia last month cannot be compared to what is in store for them in Morocco.

Nairobi United eliminated Tunisian side Etoile du Sahel in the second preliminary round on post-match penalties after a 2-2 draw on aggregate while Wydad beat Ghana’s Asante Kotoko 6-1 at the same stage.

Naibois come into the match on the back of two straight wins that leaves them seven points behind FKF Premier League leaders Gor Mahia but with two matches in hand over K’Ogalo.

However, what will worry coach Salim Ali is that his team is yet to keep a clean sheet since hosting Sahel in Nairobi on October 19 as they have let in two against the Tunisian side, three against Sofapaka, one when beating Bandari and two in their victory over Kariobangi Sharks.

That will give Wydad confidence of scoring past the Kenyan newbies as the Moroccan giants are top of their league and unbeaten this season, having conceded just three goals in their last six games, while scoring 12.

Team News

Nairobi United are without defender Yusuf Mainge which further compounds their problems in defence while Wydad will also not have former Chelsea and Ajax forward Hakim Ziyech, who was left out of this weekend’s squad. Harambee Stars utility man Manzur Okwaro is also likely to miss out as he has been nursing a niggling injury.

However, Wydad have in-form South African Thembinkosi Lorch, who has five goals and three assists in 10 games, while Nordin Amrabat (one goal and two assists) has been key in recent matches with his drive on the right wing.

Head-to-Head

This is the first meeting between the two sides although Naibos have faced North African opposition in Etoile du Sahel this season, winning 2-0 before losing 2-0 in the return leg in the last round.

Time and Where to Watch

The match will kick off at 10pm Kenyan time and will be live on SuperSport TV and beIN Sports.
