‘No Pressure’ - Why Former Shujaa Skipper is Not Panicking Despite KCB’s Floodies Setback
Former Kenya Sevens captain Andrew Amonde’s stint as KCB RFC interim coach has not been off to a great start with last weekend’s elimination from the Impala Floodlit tournament adding to his woes.
KCB suffered a 16-13 loss to Menengai Oilers in the quarter-final to exit the tournament for a second straight year and it was a major dent to their preparations for the season as Amonde continues to tune them for the Kenya Cup campaign.
However, the Shujaa legend is not looking too much into the match as he feels his side are still getting to grips with his methods given the season is yet to begin proper.

“There is no pressure because it was a knockout match and it was a tough game, anybody could have gone through, but luck did not fall on our side. It just shows we still have a lot to do on our side,” Amonde told Mozzart Sport.
“We played very well, but unfortunately, we could not secure the game in the last minute. We came here to learn. It is still a learning process.”
What is Giving Amonde Hope for Success?
KCB took a 13-6 lead into the second half but allowed Oilers a route into the game before they snatched a semi-final berth but Amonde saw a lot of positives which gives him hope of a successful season.
“Being the first game from our pre-season, we will keep on building the team as we continue to the Kenya Cup,” he added.
“There is still a lot of work from what we have seen, but we will keep on grinding until we see the formula of how we will come back and be a stronger team.”
KCB had a good sevens campaign when they won the National Sevens Circuit title and are hoping to reclaim the Kenya Cup crown from Kabras Sugar who have won it in the last four years.
The bankers have been integrating new players into the team as they build a strong squad for the future but given their huge success of the past, pressure is always there to win titles no matter the team.
