Kabras Sugar is poised to take on KCB in a top-of-the-table clash in the Kenya Cup.

Kabras Sugar Rugby Club has taken a firm stance against cigarette smoking ahead of their highly anticipated Kenya Cup clash against KCB on Saturday, March 8, at The Forest.

The defending champions have announced a temporary ban on smoking within any of the club’s premises as a precautionary measure against fire outbreaks.

This move comes in response to the recent surge in forest and grassland fires across the country, exacerbated by the prolonged dry season.

The club, in collaboration with the Kenya Forest Service (KFS), has adopted proactive measures to safeguard the Kakamega Forest ecosystem during their matches.

“As a precautionary and mitigation measure, smoking of cigarettes and any related substances within the club's facilities and playground is strictly prohibited during tomorrow's match against KCB (1:00 PM - 6:00 PM) and will remain so for subsequent matches until it is deemed safe to lift the restriction,” read part of the official communication from the club, as seen by Pulse Sports.

The decision underscores the club’s commitment to environmental conservation and public safety, especially given the high risk of wildfires in the current dry conditions.

Fans and players attending the match are expected to adhere strictly to the new policy.

The upcoming fixture is a top-of-the-table clash, with Kabras Sugar trailing KCB by just two points.

KCB currently leads the standings with 50 points, while Kabras sits close behind with 48.

Both teams remain unbeaten in their ten matches played so far, setting the stage for an intense showdown on Saturday.

With the ban in place, Kabras Sugar hopes to not only protect the environment but also set an example for other sporting institutions to take responsibility for their surroundings.

Fans have been urged to support this initiative for the greater good of the community and the preservation of Kakamega Forest.
