Nigeria vs Rwanda: Amavubi storm Uyo, hit gym for World Cup Clash against Nigeria
The Rwanda national football team known as Amavubi have touched down in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, ahead of a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
The team arrived as both sides gear up for a pivotal Group encounter at the iconic Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
Rwanda hit Gym arrive in Uyo
The Amavubi took to social media to show off their safe arrival in the country for the game.
They wasted no time in shaking off travel fatigue, heading straight to the gym for a session.
The photos on social media from the Rwanda Football Federation show the players engaging in a series of stretching and strength exercises.
Along with the photos was a message that said, "This morning, Amavubi renewed their spirit in the gym shaking off the fatigue of yesterday’s journey, carrying the hope of a nation in every heartbeat.
"Next stop: Godswill Akpabio training ground, 4:00 PM. On the pitch, the hunt begins!"
Rwanda come into the game following a 1-1 draw with Lesotho and now need a strong performance against Nigeria.
The Amavubi trail Group leaders South Africa by five points with only four matches remaining and need a positive result to keep their slim chances of qualifying for their first-ever FIFA World Cup alive.
The first leg between Nigeria and Rwanda in Kigalo was a 2-0 win for the Super Eagles.
The game between Nigeria and Rwanda is scheduled to take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, September 6, 2025.
