The match initially seemed to be going the way of AFC Leopards when captain Victor Omune broke the deadlock in the 59th minute, guiding home a well-placed cross from Ronald Sichenje.

However, the tide turned dramatically in the final fifteen minutes as Brian Ouru emerged as the hero for the Slum Boys, netting a quick-fire brace in the 77th and 82nd minutes to snatch the lead.

The Leopards' defence crumbled shortly after, allowing Isaac Omweri to curl in a third goal in the 87th minute and put the result beyond doubt.

Finally, Ian Omondi sealed the spectacular comeback deep into stoppage time, leaving the title-chasing AFC Leopards stunned by the clinical finishing of their rivals.

Mathare United Speaks After Beating AFC Leopards

After the match, the Mathare United coach said that the match could have ended with a much bigger margin in his team’s favour.

John Kamau explained that his players created numerous clear chances during the opening half and, in his view, they should have converted several of them.

Because of the number of missed opportunities early in the game, Kamau felt the final score did not fully reflect how dominant his side had been.

He added that the opposing team was fortunate that the result did not become more embarrassing, noting that the scoreline could easily have reached around seven goals for his side.

According to him, his team's attacking play and movement put them in many dangerous positions, but the finishing was not as clinical as it could have been in the first period.

Despite that, the coach expressed satisfaction with the outcome. He noted that the team's top priority was securing the victory and maximising points from the match.

“And I think the other thing is that AFC Leopard are lucky because this game was supposed to end at seven. Seven or so. We had a lot of scoring opportunities in the first half, but unfortunately, we didn't. But we are happy we got the three points,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gor Mahia lead the FKF Premier League table with 50 points ahead of their match against Ulinzi Stars on Sunday, March 15.

AFC Leopards are second on the table with 43 points, ahead of their match against Nairobi United on Wednesday, March 18.
