Despite dominating possession for much of the match, Gor Mahia struggled to convert their chances and were ultimately undone by a clinical counter-attack from the spirited underdogs.

The loss serves as a humble reminder of the nature of the sport, leaving the Gor Mahia faithful searching for answers after such an unexpected stumble.

Ambrose Rachier: I Have Asked For Answers

Ambrose Rachier said he had already spoken to the technical bench and asked them to explain what may have led to the team’s poor performance in the FKF Cup defeat to BB Bread FC.

The Gor Mahia chairman noted that while he was not a football expert, the quality of football displayed was not good enough, and the result was therefore not surprising, considering the opponent had already exceeded expectations with their performance.

Ambrose Rachier added that despite acknowledging the strength of the opposing side, the club’s leadership was not satisfied with either the outcome of the match or the manner in which the team played.

He said he had communicated these concerns to both the technical bench and the players and requested them to explain whether there were underlying issues contributing to the performance so that the club could understand what was causing the situation.

“I have actually talked to the players at the technical bench to let me know what has led to this. Because we are not football experts, but you can say that this is not very good football today. And the result, of course, the result is expected,” Ambrose Rachier told Gor Mahia Fan TV.

“The team is very good, and they have already beaten our expectations, and therefore, it's really no surprise. But we are not happy about their results or even the manner in which we played. I have indicated this to both the technical bench and the playing unit, and I've asked them to let us know if there is anything that is leading to this or is causing this.”

Ambrose Rachier said the club’s leadership would have to address the situation following the disappointing FKF Cup loss, noting that football can sometimes produce unexpected outcomes where smaller teams defeat bigger sides, similar to what is often seen in competitions such as the FA Cup.

Rachier explained that he rarely interferes with the work of the technical bench, as that area falls under their responsibility, and instead focuses on evaluating the team’s overall performance and the final result.

Rachier observed that while teams can lose matches, what matters most is the effort and quality displayed on the pitch, adding that defeat is not unusual if the team has given its best. However, he noted that the manner in which the team played raised concerns and suggested that something might not be right.

“It's something that we need to address as leaders of the club. People say such is football. The results, sometimes very unexpected results come, and people are quoting even the FA Cup that's going on, where you see some small team kind of almost humiliating the bigger teams,” he added.

Ambrose Rachier also discussed a pending case involving the club, noting that the club had already submitted its defence. He declined to discuss the details further, stating that it was a legal matter and that it was important to respect the judicial process while the case was still ongoing.

Rachier added that Gor Mahia remained determined to succeed on the pitch, emphasising that healthy competition was important and that the team remained motivated to challenge rivals such as AFC Leopards in pursuit of records and success.

He said Gor Mahia would continue preparing for upcoming matches while also addressing the concerns behind the recent performances and results so that the situation could be corrected before it reached a point where it would become difficult to explain what was happening.

“Because we've been 21 times league champions, that's something that we take a lot of pride in. The other contenders have hardly made half; I think they've just done over half of what we've done. So, we just want to tell them, welcome. We're the better team, the best team technically,” Ambrose Rachier added.

“Two things I would say. One is, first of all, to really appreciate the conduct of our fans. It has completely changed, been transformed, so that there's really no fear. And what we've witnessed today is exactly supportive of what I am saying. We attribute it first to education. The branches have played a very important part in explaining to the fans the importance of good conduct in the stadium.”
