AFC Leopards Boss Reveals How Many Players He Wants in Next Transfer Window
While they are still challenging for the FKF Premier League title, AFC Leopards are already planning for the next transfer window and they do not intend to be very busy.
Leopards are currently second on the table with 43 points, six behind leaders Gor Mahia, after both sides played 22 games with Ingwe showing form that has not been witnessed from them for many years.
Fred Ambani’s team showed why they are serious about the title push at the weekend when they thrashed Shabana FC 5-1 and have already also beaten Gor Mahia this season to give fans hope of a first league crown since 1998.
To maintain the same momentum next season and challenge for the big trophies, club chairman Boniface Ambani feels Ingwe needs to get away from a scattergun approach when it comes to their transfers.
Why Ingwe Want Few New Players
“We are not going to do an overhaul,” Ambani said on NTV. “We will just get the right players in their right positions.”
“Maybe two or three players and I will be done. In the next [transfer] window, if I go overboard, it is four players because we have already identified where the gaps are and we will push,” he added.
Leopards have been known to make wholesale changes to the squad every season with nearly 20 players unveiled and that approach did not yield much success.
Ambani looks keen to avoid such pitfalls as he thinks the current side has shown enough quality and what is needed is reinforcing some key areas to make them even better as long as they are well motivated.
“With the current squad, what we have done is morale…It is top. They are being paid on time…their allowances are top,” added the Leopards chairman. “Our sponsors Betika have done tremendous job because their support has been overwhelming.”
