Following the performance, many Manchester United fans called for Amorim's resignation.

The Portuguese manager himself hinted at a possible departure. "Something has to change, and you can't just replace 22 players again," he stated.

Last season, he twice spoke of leaving, and after the Europa League final loss to Tottenham, he offered to walk away without compensation.

Over the summer, the Red Devils' hierarchy backed the manager, spending over £200 million on new signings. However, hopes for a turnaround are beginning to fade just three matches into the season.

According to some English media outlets, the board is already thinking about his successor and has identified Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, who led his team to FA Cup glory last season, and Bournemouth's Andoni Iraola as potential candidates.

This season, Manchester United are without European football, so expectations are high for them to perform much better in the Premier League after spending around £200m to strengthen their attack.

The arrivals of Benjamin Šeško, Matheus Cunha, and Bryan Mbeumo were meant to make the team more competitive, but the early signs have been disappointing.

United have collected only a single point from their first two league matches against Arsenal and Fulham, and they were eliminated from the League Cup on Wednesday by League Two side Grimsby Town.
