Kenneth Muguna: Why Big-Money Transfer to Botswana Has Been Nine Years in the Making
Harambee Stars midfielder Kenneth Muguna has explained why he chose to move to Botswana giants Township Rollers following the end of his contract with Kenya Police.
Muguna joined his third club abroad when he completed a move to the Botswana giants this week and he is looking forward to a successful spell at the Gaborone-based side.
The former Gor Mahia and Azam FC midfielder says Township Rollers was an easy choice as it is a club he has had his eyes on for the last nine years, before the opportunity to join them finally presented itself.
Muguna Has Big Ambitions for His New Club
“I have been following Rollers and their progress since around 2016 and this is a club I know really well,” Muguna told Telecomasia.net.
“They have the biggest history in Botswana’s football circles but have not had success over the last six years. My ambition is to help the team win the league this season and it will be great for the club and fans if we make it.”
Township Rollers may have the history but they have been living in the shadows of rivals Gaborone United and Jwaneng Galaxy in the last six years, having won their last league title in the 2018-19 season.
Can the Kenyan Fire Township Rollers to Glory?
The 16-time Botswana champions finished sixth last season and this is what is driving Muguna as he wants to return them to the summit thanks to his vast experience that has seen him win four league titles in Kenya, three with Gor Mahia, and another one with Police.
“I decided to move here because I wanted to have a new challenge and experience something new because I have played mostly in East Africa. When the chance to come to Botswana opened up, it was an easy decision because as a player, you also want to test yourself in new environments,” added the 29-year-old.
Muguna has already linked up with his new team-mates and will hope to be involved in their away clash to Morupule Wanderers on Saturday afternoon.
