KCB, Kabras, Harlequins Cruise on Opening Day of 2025 Driftwood 7s in Mombasa

The 2025 Driftwood 7s tournament kicked off successfully at the Mombasa Sports Club with four teams going unbeaten after the first day. 

Defending Champions Kenya Harlequins topped Pool A with three victories, 14-7 over BlakBlad, 17-00 over Mwamba and a resounding 45-00 over MMUST Rugby.

In Pool B, Kabras Sugar RFC secured a 26-00 win over Nakuru, 21-07 over Impala and 29-00 over the Catholic Monks. KCB was the third side to go unbeaten as they saw off their opponents Daystar 24-14 before sealing off their top of the Pool position with 43-00 and 40-00 wins over hosts Mombasa Sports Club and Nondies respectively.

Pool D action saw Strathmore Leos see off Menengai Oilers 14-05 to seal their position at the top. This victory was preceded by a 28-00 victory over Kabarak University and a 26-00 win over Stallions Rugby.

The 36th edition of Driftwood 7s also had upsets in day one as Mwamba, Impala, Kabarak and Mombasa wrapped up their day one action without registering a single victory.

This performance saw them finish at the bottom of their pools.Speaking after their first two matches, Kabras Coach Marlin Mukolwe reiterated that their target for the weekend is to secure the victory.

He added that they have tweaked their starting line ups on day one as they work on finding their perfect combinations.Defending Champions Kenya Harlequin’s coach Simon Odongo echoed the same sentiments regarding his squad selection and targets for the weekend
