Bayer Leverkusen have been handed a massive boost with the return of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface to training following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
The 23-year-old has been out of action since January after picking up a serious injury that also ruled him out of the Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles earlier this year.
Boniface back on grass
Boniface has now taken his first steps towards a comeback after the club took to social media to share a picture of the player back on the ball during a training session at the BayArena.
The image posted on Twitter was captioned: "Small steps, first time back on the ball! 😮💨🇳🇬 #Bayer04 #Werkself | @boniface_jrn"
It's a sight that will be music to the ears of Leverkusen fans, who have been sweating on the fitness of their talismanic striker.
Boniface had been in superb form for the Bundesliga outfit before his untimely injury, bagging 10 goals and seven assists in 16 appearances in the Bundesliga alone for his new club.
His return will be a welcome reinforcement for Xabi Alonso's side as they look to secure a first-ever Bundesliga title.
The Spanish boss will no doubt be taking a cautious approach with Boniface's reintegration, but all signs point towards the Nigerian spearheading Leverkusen's attack again before the season is out.
It remains to be seen whether he'll be able to pick up where he left off, but one thing's for sure - Boniface's comeback is a narrative that Pulse Sports Nigeria will be following closely in the weeks ahead.
