Nathan Tella was the catalyst as Bayer Leverkusen took another big step towards an elusive Bundesliga title with a 2-0 victory over Wolfsburg.
The Nigerian Eagle opened the scoring just before halftime with a towering header, his fifth league goal of an impressive campaign with the high-flyers, Pulse Sports Nigeria can report.
Tella shines for Leverkusen
Tella's aerial prowess set Leverkusen on their way before Florian Wirtz sealed the three points after the break as Xabi Alonso's side remained 10 points clear at the top.
The 24-year-old was a constant menace in his 76 minutes on the pitch, completing 93% of his passes, creating one chance and making a key pass, even if his wings were briefly clipped on the dribbling front.
While Tella will be disappointed not to have completed either of his two take-on attempts, his overall performance showcased why he has become such an important figure in Leverkusen's unexpected title charge.
The summer signing from Southampton is starting to realise his immense potential this season, with his five Bundesliga goals showing how quickly he is settling in at the BayArena.
If Tella can maintain this scoring rate and Leverkusen can keep soaring, an unlikely championship triumph could be on the cards come May.
For now, though, Xabi Alonso's Eagles and their Die Werkself are flying high and showing no signs of their wings being clipped any time soon.
