McCarthy discussed his ambitions to manage in Europe in the near future, saying he would jump at a chance to coach either Rangers or Celtic, Scotland’s two biggest teams.

The South African coach said he would jump at such a chance and submit his CV if a window of opportunity opens up at either Rangers or Celtic.

“I am up in Scotland right now, so who knows? I’ll definitely put my CV in for Rangers one day because that would be like managing Arsenal, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool, Man United up in Scotland because that’s how big they are. Ditto Celtic – if that job were to become available, it would be a dream job for any manager worth their salt,” McCarthy told Best Betting Sites.

Could Benni McCarthy Land the Celtic Job?

“They are two massive clubs and if opportunities like that present themselves here, you will put yourself out there. But the likelihood of you getting it is mission impossible. But you can only hope. That’s the ambition of any manager or anyone that is working in football management; you want to get to the highest level possible.”

Now, that hope could potentially become a reality after Brendan Rodgers resigned as Celtic manager on Monday night in what was a shocking decision given how successful he has been at the club.

Rodger’s last game was the 3-1 loss to Hearts at the weekend which left the record Scottish champions eight points adrift of the league leaders, a rare position for the club, and former manager Martin O’Neil and ex-player Shaun Maloney have been put in charge on an interim basis.

Harambee Stars Coach Among Rank Outsiders

Celtic confirmed a permanent replacement is being sought, opening the door for applications, and McCarthy, who is currently on a break in Scotland, could perhaps put his hat in the ring.

While he might be one of the rank outsiders for the job, the Harambee Stars coach has experience and confidence in himself and has previously expressed a willingness to pit his wits amongst the best in some of Europe’s top leagues as well as competitions.

It remains to be seen which route Celtic will take when it comes to replacing Rodgers but McCarthy is one of the coaches who habour ambitions of managing the club.

Rodgers had won back-to-back league titles as well as a couple of cups in the last two years, his second spell at the club, after the first one yielded seven trophies, among them two Scottish Premiership crowns.
