What Has Mosinmane Said About McCarthy?
“Top coach and his technical team. Making SA and Africa proud. The journey just started, the best is yet to come,” said Mosimane while reacting to an Instagram photo posted by McCarthy who was accompanied with his technical team during a recent visit to State House, Nairobi.
McCarthy’s reign with Harambee Stars has seen him manage 13 games, winning six, drawing four and losing three, with a change in style, selection based in merit as well as strict adherence to discipline among the players some of the positives witnessed so far.
McCarthy’s coaching journey has seen him work at Cape Town City and AmaZulu in South Africa, where he improved the clubs’ fortunes, before later getting a role as attacking coach at Manchester United, when he was credited for the upturn in form of Marcus Rashford, who scored a career-high 30 goals in the 2022-23 season.
Mosimane, who coached Bafana Bafana between 2010 and 2012, is the man credited with turning Sundowns into a major force in African football, winning five league titles as well as the CAF Champions League, before he moved on to Egyptian giants Al Ahly where he won two more Champions Leagues in as many years.
