The 129th edition of the Boston Marathon saw long-distance greats donning high-end athletic footwear battle it out for top honors on the history-making course.

A new champion was crowned as Kenyan star John Korir edged out Tanzanian Alphonce Simbu and fellow countryman Cybrian Kotut on April 21.

The podium finishers all donned famous footwear that propelled them to glory on the Boston course.

3. Cybrian Kotut’s Shoes - Boston Marathon

The Kenyan long-distance running sensation came into the race among the fastest in the field.

Kotut, who is sponsored by athletics wear giant Adidas, donned the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2.

The Kenyan star looked comfortable in his stride as he clocked 2:05:04 to claim bronze.

2. Alphonce Simbu’s Shoes - Boston Marathon

The Tanzanian star Alphonce Simbu was a delightful surprise on the podium, usually dominated by East African counterparts Kenya and Ethiopia.

Simbu gave a good account on the Boston course, setting up a thrilling sprint finish with Kotut, also donning the Adidas Adizero Adios Pro Evo 2.

Simbu clocked 2:05:04 to edge out Kotut for second place but couldn't catch up to John Korir.

The Kenyan long-distance star made a mark on the Boston Marathon course.

Despite taking a stumble early on in the race, Korir recovered to register the second-fastest Boston Marathon course time of 2:04:45, behind Geoffrey Mutai’s course record time of 2:03:02.

Korir achieved the feat wearing the Asics Metaspeed Sky Paris.

The Kenyan champion etched his name into history and cemented his footwear in athletics history as well.
