Boniface Muchiri: Harambee Stars Forward Earns Military Promotion After CHAN 2024 Heroics
Harambee Stars forward Boniface Muchiri has earned a promotion in the military after his starring role for the country at the 2024 African Nations Championships (CHAN 2024).
Muchiri was among the star players as Kenya made it to the quarter-final of the continental competition and has been rewarded for his great work for the nation.
The winger has been promoted from the rank of Senior Private to Corporal in an event presided over by Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri on Wednesday.

The new ranks were conferred by the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command, Major General Luka Kutto.
“We are very grateful for your commitment, hard work and excellent performance while serving Kenya and, by extension, the KDF. We wish you success in future assignments and are confident you will continue to excel,” General Kahariri told Muchiri.
How Did Muchiri Perform at CHAN 2024?
The promotion comes after Harambee Stars captain Abud Omar had requested President William Ruto to consider elevating the rank of his team-mate when he visited the team in camp just before the CHAN 2024 tournament started.
Muchiri, who plays for Ulinzi Stars, was one of the most experienced players in the squad and offered Benni McCarthy’s team attacking impetus when he either started or came off the bench.
He provided two assists at the CHAN 2024, setting up Ryan Ogam to score against Zambia before Alphonce Omija headed home from his well-delivered freekick in the quarter-final against Madagascar.
The winger’s good show saw him make it into McCarthy’s team for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against The Gambia and Seychelles in September.
As per the KDF Service Member Ranks, Corporal is the third lowest after Private and Lance Corporal, and Muchiri will be targeting more impressive performances to move him to the next rank, which is Sergeant.
