Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has found himself linked to coaching jobs away from Kenya and one of them is in his country South Africa.

McCarthy was reported this week to have received an approach from Tanzanian giants Simba SC, who saw their South African coach Fadlu Davids ditch them for Moroccan club Raja Casablanca.

Besides that, another vacancy has opened up in South Africa, where Tunisian coach Nasreddine Nabi has reached an agreement to leave Kaizer Chiefs over various reasons, leaving the country’s most popular team looking for a new man in the dugout in the second month of the new season.

That has brought McCarthy into focus as he is among big names being linked to the job, alongside ex-Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane as well as Spaniard Jose Riveiro, who enjoyed a successful three years at rivals Orlando Pirates, before a short-lived stay at Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

But while Chiefs fans would be happy to have McCarthy coaching their underachieving team, what they are not comfortable with is the possibility of the Bafana Bafana legend coming along with one his trusted assistants being goalkeeping coach Moeneeb Josephs.

McCarthy and Josephs are long-time friends and besides playing together at Pirates, the ex-goalkeeper also served in his backroom staff when he worked as AmaZulu head coach between December 2020 and March 2022.

Josephs, however, is a certified Chiefs 'hater’ who never wastes an opportunity to take a swipe at Amakhosi and that does not sit well with the club’s supporters in case McCarthy lands the job.

“The idea of Benni McCarthy arriving at Kaizer Chiefs with Moeneeb Joseph as his goalkeeper coach is something that would make me go to Lena Road and stage a one-man protest outside the gates,” a Chiefs fan posted on X, expressing his fear at the possibility of Josephs working at their club.

Chiefs Fans Voice Opposition to Moeneeb Josephs

Kaizer Chiefs fans are not happy with Moeneeb Josephs potentially joining their club.

“He [McCarthy] better change assistant coach to Siyabonga Nomvete. I also won’t tolerate that, just like I didn’t tolerate and understand the obsession of the team with Sheppard. I prefer our legends on assistant,” another Chiefs fan said.

“Yhooo Moeneeb after all the disrespect that he has been spreading about our team, will also join u on that solo protest, no ways,” another one expressed.

“Imagine Moneeb as our goalkeeper coach after all he's been saying about our team.”

“I also don't like the idea, especially Moeneeb Joseph. He never likes us," wrote a Chiefs supporter.

It remains to be seen who Chiefs will hand the job with Nabi’s assistants Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze currently in charge of the team.
