Kenya Sevens coach Kevin Wambua has outlined what his technical team will do to make sure Odongo maintains his upward trajectory.

Kenya Sevens head coach Kevin Wambua believes that Patrick Odongo has a very bright future ahead of him after continuing to set the world alight in sevens rugby this season.

Odongo has grown into a really important player for the side over the last couple of months since making his debut in Harare, Zimbabwe in September for the African Olympic qualifiers, before following it up with a brilliant Safari Sevens tournament in November and now the Dubai Challenger Series.

The 20-year-old scored 11 tries at that tournament  with his pace in particular being a thorn in the flesh of very many teams.

Speaking after his side secured a semi-final place after beating Japan 22-19 on Saturday, Wambua hailed Odongo as an incredible talent who could reach for the stars with proper guidance.

“He is confident right now, he is a special talent,” Wambua said.

“He is still young, he is still growing. I think this is only his first season but there is still more to come from him.”

Wambua has revealed his master plan to make Odongo reach the heights of former greats like Collins Injera.

“For us, it is just to guide him and make sure that we nurture him so that he reaches his full potential and make sure we make him more comfortable and more confident for how he wants to play," added Wambua.

Odongo has exhibited sheer brilliance on the rugby field. His unmatched skills, lightning speed, and strategic play left a trail of awe among spectators and opponents alike.

The Daystar Falcons winger’s remarkable contributions have been pivotal in Kenya’s quest to return to the top of World Rugby.
