Kenya Harlequin have opted against extending the stay of experienced coach Paul Murunga who has ended his three-year stay after steering the club to Kenya Cup playoffs.

Kenya Harlequin have parted ways with coach Paul Murunga following the conclusion of his three-year contract.

Murunga joined Quins in May 2022 and steered the club to the National 7s Circuit, Driftwood 7s, Ingo 7s, and the Mwamba Cup during his tenure and was awarded the Kenya Harlequin Spirit of Rugby Shield at the 2023 annual club dinner.

However, Kenya Cup success still eluded Quins, who have had to contend with mid table finishes, with their last title still being in 2012.

In the just-concluded 2024-25 campaign, Quins finished fifth in the regular season, securing a playoff berth, but did not go far as they lost 38-22 to Nondies to miss out on the semi-final ticket in March.

“It’s been a privilege to serve this great club. I am proud of what we have achieved,” said Murunga as per a club statement.

Harlequin chairman Victor Sudi was thankful to the former Kenya Sevens and Homeboyz RFC coach for his work.

“Paul brought deep knowledge and passion to his roles at Kenya Harlequin. We are grateful for his three years with Quins, and we wish him the very best in his coaching journey ahead. He will always be welcome as a friend at Kenya Harlequin,” said Sudi.

“Paul leaves Kenya Harlequin as a winner. He revitalised the men’s squad and played a key role in the club’s return to women’s and age-grade rugby. He guided us to multiple trophies, and his place in Quins’ history is assured. Good luck in your future endeavours, Pau,” Quins’ Director of Rugby Joel Nganga chipped in.

Harlequin have promised to reveal the new technical bench soon after conducting a full review of their 2024-24 season.
