Shujaa lost all their Pool matches in the on going Hong Kong 7s.

Kenyans would have hoped that the scoreline was an April Fools prank but Shujaa again failed to win any of their Pool matches after falling to South Africa 26-17 in the Hong Kong 7s.

Shujaa had lost their opening matches against New Zealand and Ireland which meant that they missed the Main Cup quarter-finals of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series.

Damian McGrath's men are 13th on the log with this season structured in that at the end of the penultimate event in Toulouse, the 15th-ranked team will be relegated to the 2024 Challenger Series while the 12th to 14th-ranked teams will face off against the Challenger Series 2023 winner for the final position in the 2024 World Series.

Kenya had a shambolic start to the game with Shaun Williams needing just three minutes to land the game’s first try after a fortuitous bounce when Alvin Otieno attempted to pick up a grabber kick with Ricardo Duarte adding the extras.

South Africa wasted no time doubling their advantage straight from the restart after skipper Shakes Soyzwapi collected the ball to stroll beyond the whitewash as Duarte again converted the try.

Kenya had seen little of the ball in hand and South Africa again touched down after Christie Grobbelaar sold a dummy to John Okoth and fended off Nelson Oyoo for the five-pointer as the Blitzboks went into the break with a 19-0 lead.

Kenya salvaged some pride at the start of the second half when Nelson Oyoo received a long-range pass from Anthony Omondi on the rightflank to touch down but the conversion was missed.

A sloppy pass from Brian Tanga saw Donovan Don pick up the loose ball and race to the try box with Shaun Williams adding the extras.

Jeff Oluoch who was returning to the team after completing his Police training went on a lung-bursting run to land a try and capped his celebration with a salute but again Kenya were again unsuccessful from the conversion.

Billy Odhiambo put some respect on the scoreline as he scored a try after the hooter and there was still time for Johnstone Olindi to add the extra two points as South Africa ran out 26-17 winners.
