The daughter of Buccaneers star Shaquil Barrett drowned in a swimming pool.
Police say the 2-year-old daughter of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Shaquil Barrett drowned in a swimming pool at the family's Florida home on Sunday.
After a child fell into a pool, police were called to a Beach Park residence in Tampa at 9:30 a.m., according to the Tampa Police Department.
After being transported to a local hospital, the infant was declared dead shortly after because he or she was unable to be resuscitated.
According to police, it was a tragic accident and there was no criminal activity. The Buccaneers issued a statement in Barrett and his family's defense.
The statement by the Buccaneers on the death of Shaquil Barrett's daughter said, “Today’s tragic news is heartbreaking for all members of the Buccaneers family.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with Shaq, Jordanna, and the entire Barrett family during this unimaginably difficult time.
“While no words can provide true comfort at a time such as this, we offer our support and love as they begin to process this very profound loss of their beloved Arrayah.”
Barrett, 30 years old, has nine seasons of NFL experience. He played his first five years in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, winning the Super Bowl in 2015, after entering the league as an undrafted free agent out of Colorado State.
Barrett committed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019. He played on the Tom Brady-led Buccaneers' 2021 Super Bowl-winning squad.
