Shujaa were relegated from the HSBC World Rugby Series in May.

Sports CS Ababu Namwamba is working around the clock to ensure the Kenya Sevens team goes back to winning ways after being relegated from the HSBC World Rugby Series last month.

On Monday evening, the CS had an online meeting with the president of Rugby Africa, Herbert Mensah, and they discussed the best approach to return Kenya’s rugby to its rightful place.

The CS suggested that the best approach to this is nurturing the young talent. Namwamba promised that the Ministry will be intentional in supporting youngsters in their mission to cement their place in the world of rugby.

"The surest way of returning Kenya's rugby to the elite table is by going back to basics and nurturing young talents.

We are going to be intentional and deliberate in tapping the raw talents from our young players to aid our mission of getting back to the elite table,” Namwamba said.

He added that the upcoming World U20 Trophy to be held in July will be a good platform of identifying the budding talent and ensuring the Ministry supports the juniors fully.

I want to give you my full assurance and the government's support to actualize this dream of getting Shujaa back to where they belong, starting with the upcoming U20 games," Namwamba added.

He said the Ministry was already working on plans to develop key infrastructure and promised an inquest into the tribulations that faced Kenya's Rugby as well as steps to get the team back to the elite league.

On his part, president Mensah lauded CS Namwamba for the revival roadmap, urging him to continue supporting Shujaa's quest to return to HSBC series core teams.
