Juma was awarded a scholarship for the 2023 Commonwealth Women’s Leadership Programme.
Karateka Joyce Juma believes her scholarship is proof to women in sports that they can also achieve great milestones despite the tons of challenges they are bound to face.
Juma, who was awarded a scholarship for the 2023 Commonwealth Women’s Leadership Programme, revealed that her main goal is to be a source of inspiration to other women.
“I want to let girls know that it’s possible to make it through sports. It’s tough and difficult especially for women who venture into male-dominated sports but I am here to assure you that you can overcome that,” Juma said.
She added that the scholarship was another opportunity given to her to chase her dreams. The award will give her an opportunity to upgrade her skills towards personal development in sports management and grow a program that supports sports in the community.

“I’m so happy. I feel like I have been given another chance to give back to the community,” she said.
Juma is one of the 25 women within the Commonwealth nations in the program that will be keen to support emerging female leaders as they seek to access appropriate educational and experiential opportunities to empower them as leaders for equal rights within their sport and communities.
She becomes the second beneficiary of the program after Cycling Administrator Angela Achieng managed to go through the program last year.
