Harambee Stars boss Benni McCarthy has outlined how the standards of the FKF Premier League are rising since he became national team coach.
Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has disclosed how the Kenyan league is benefiting since his appointment.
McCarthy, who has been national team coach since March 2025, has made it a point to watch FKF Premier League matches to follow the progress of his players and also unearth some rough diamonds.
From his visits and those of his technical team, a number of local-based players have received opportunities in the national team while some are knocking on the door.

Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy is keen to spoil Ivory Coast’s party as he has advised his players to face the African champions without fear next week.
McCarthy feels his presence at league matches is making players lift their standards in a bid to catch his eye.
"It is always important for players to be aware that the national team coach is there watching games and seeing progress of the players that have been part of the setup since I joined," said McCarthy. "Also, for players who are on the fringes who are looking to break into the national team.”
How is the FKF League Benefiting from McCarthy?
"For them to showcase and also take the opportunity to try and play the best football that you can because you might do something special that catches my eye or my coaches' eyes and you find yourself in the frame of the national team."

The South African tactician believes the Kenyan league is the biggest the beneficiary as the improved standards will add a competitive edge to the top flight.
"It is also a good opportunity to improve the league because when the national team coach attends matches, the standards kind of raises a little bit," he added.
"So we try and go watch as many games as we can. Sometimes, I cannot personally be there but the rest of my technical team is always there, so it is important for the local players to feel that we do not exclude them in anything that our focus is only on overseas players so everybody is as important."
