Shabana faces Nairobi City Stars in a historic FKF Premier League clash aiming to revive fortunes with new signings.

Shabana FC is gearing up for a historic encounter against Nairobi City Stars in the FKF Premier League match at Kenyatta Stadium, Machakos, on Sunday afternoon.

This much-anticipated clash marks the first time in 18 years that these two teams will meet in the top flight bringing a wave of excitement and nostalgia to Kenyan football fans.

Shabana, currently 17th in the league with 17 points from 19 matches, is looking to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Ulinzi Stars.

Despite the setback, Shabana’s coach Sammy Omollo remains optimistic, noting the team's preparation and improvement under his guidance.

"We are well prepared, as for the past two weeks we have not been in action. In terms of mental and technical readiness, the boys are prepared, and I am impressed," said Omollo, "Our team, in the past, has been losing concentration mostly towards the end of the match, but that has changed," he added.

Shabana is expected to showcase their new signings in this crucial match. Among them is goalkeeper Fredrick Odhiambo, a significant addition from Bandari, set to replace Mustapha Oduor.

Odhiambo, with his experience from playing for teams like Wazito, Gor Mahia, Sofapaka, Mathare United, and Rwanda’s AS Kigali, brings much-needed strength to Shabana’s defense.

Right-back Alvin ‘Chicha’ Odhiambo, on loan from Gor Mahia, is another player to watch. He can operate effectively as a left-back too.

On the other side, Nairobi City Stars, positioned second with 33 points, are eager to return to their winning ways after their eight-match unbeaten streak was snapped by a 2-0 loss to AFC Leopards.

The team, previously known as World Hope FC, last hosted Shabana in the 2005/2006 Premier League season, a match that ended in a 1-1 draw but was later awarded to Shabana due to World Hope's fielding of an ineligible player.

The history between these two teams, although sparse in recent years, has been intriguing.

While Shabana regained its spot in the league at the start of the season, Nairobi City Stars had the upper hand in their more recent encounters in the second tier, the National Super League, winning both games in 2019.
