The former Everton tactician accepted the Blues’ offer following a managerial change.

Frank Lampard’s first assignment as Chelsea’s interim manager is a match against Wolves at Molineux on Saturday.

The 44-year-old tactician was confirmed as the caretaker manager for the Blues, who parted company with Graham Potter. This is also Lampard’s first managerial job since he was sacked by Everton in January.

In Potter’s last game against Aston Villa, Chelsea suffered a 2-0 defeat and slipped to 11th place.

Lampard’s major worry should be Chelsea’s blunt attacks; the Blues have scored at least two or more goals in just three of their last 20 Premier League matches and have failed to score at all in 10 games during this run.

Meanwhile, Wolves are also not in good form as they are engaged in the relegation dogfight. Since their 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur in early March, Wolves have picked up just one point from their last nine available.

Team News

Ruben Neves, who picked up his 10th yellow card of the season against Nottingham Forest, will now serve a two-match suspension and thus not be available for Julen Lopetegui.

Knee injuries have ruled out Sasa Kalajdzic, and Chiquinho, while Hwang Hee-chan will not be available due to an unspecified issue.

On Chelsea’s part, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang is ruled out by a back injury, while Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, and Armando Broja are out with knee problems.

After praising Mason Mount in his first press conference as Chelsea coach, it remains to be seen whether the English midfielder will get a place in the starting XI.

What are the stats saying?

Wolves have only managed one win and five points in their past seven league fixtures, in contrast to four victories and 13 points from their first seven games under Lopetegui.

Raul Jimenez has gone 21 Premier League appearances without a goal since scoring against Watford in March 2022.

Adama Traore is poised to become the fourth player to make 150 Premier League appearances for Wolves, emulating Joao Moutinho, Ruben Neves, and Conor Coady.

Chelsea have scored 29 goals in as many top-flight matches this season, only ever netting fewer at this stage of a campaign in 1921-22 and 1923-24.

Frank Lampard's first managerial spell at the Blues lasted for 18 months. He guided them to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League and an FA Cup final defeat by Arsenal in his only full season in charge in 2019-20.

The Blues have only won four of their past 20 Premier League fixtures (D8, L8).

Predicted line-ups:

Wolves: Sa, Semedo, Dawson, Kilman, Bueno; Lemina, Neves, Nunes, A. Traore, Jimenez, Podence.

Chelsea: Kepa, James, W.Fofana, Badiashile, Chilwell, Kante, Fernandez, Mount, Madueke, Havertz, Sterling.
