Marcus Rashford is celebrating his dream transfer to Barcelona but the deal might perhaps not have happened were it not for the help of a little-known darts player.

Marcus Rashford's loan move to Barcelona from Manchester United earlier this month was facilitated by an agent with a surprising past in the world of professional darts.

Simon Leaf, head of the sport and technology division at law firm Mishcon de Reya, assisted Rashford's brother and agent, Dwaine Maynard, with the financial intricacies of the deal as per The Sun.

Leaf, who boasts a portfolio of Premier League clubs, athletes, and even entire nations, brought his financial expertise to the negotiation table.

However, Leaf's background extends beyond the realm of high-profile contracts. During his time at Cambridge University, he participated in a televised darts match against Oxford University at the 2005 World Darts Championship at Lakeside Country Club.

The match, against Oxford's Mark Carpenter, proved to be a memorable, if somewhat awkward, affair. Both players struggled, repeatedly failing to hit the double one needed to finish.

Simon Leaf Has Extensive Experience in Football

The prolonged game even necessitated a chair for caller Rab Butler. Ultimately, Carpenter secured the win, concluding a less-than-stellar performance from both competitors.

Beyond darts, Leaf has also officiated semi-professional football matches at the National Conference and Premier League U23 levels. The Aston Villa supporter's diverse experience undoubtedly proved valuable in navigating Rashford's move away from Manchester United, where he had fallen out of favour with manager Ruben Amorim.

Rashford signed a one-year loan deal with Barcelona, who hold an option to buy him next summer for approximately £26 million. Amorim has stated unequivocally that Rashford will not play for United under his management.

At Barcelona, Rashford has been assigned the No. 14 shirt, previously worn by club legends like Johan Cruyff, Thierry Henry, and Ronald Koeman.

He was joined at his unveiling by his former fiancée, Lucia Loi, who even helped ensure his shirt was perfectly positioned for the photos, which included a shot next to a classic red British phone box.
