Gor Mahia captain Philemon Otieno has apologised to the fans after missing out on the FKF Premier League title to Kenya Police.

Gor Mahia captain Philemon Otieno has publicly apologised to the club’s devoted fanbase following their failure to defend the FKF Premier League title, which was dramatically clinched by Kenya Police FC in the final stretch of the season.

Speaking candidly to Azam TV ahead of their concluding fixture, which they drew 1-1 against the new champions , Otieno acknowledged the team’s shortcomings and took full responsibility on behalf of the entire squad.

Otieno: We Are Sorry

“From myself and my fellow teammates, I want to sincerely apologise to our fans. We know they expected us to lift both trophies this season — especially the league title. Unfortunately, Police have taken it,” Otieno said.

“We will go back to the drawing board and redeem ourselves next season.”

The FKF title race was one of the tightest in recent memory, with Gor Mahia and Kenya Police neck-and-neck heading into the final rounds.

For Gor fans — known for their fierce loyalty and high expectations — the failure to deliver sparked frustration, with some labeling the campaign as underwhelming given the club’s stature and history.

Despite the sting of falling short, Otieno remains optimistic. His focus now turns to the FKF Cup final, where Gor Mahia have a shot at silverware and a ticket to next season’s CAF Confederation Cup.

Otieno: We Will Redeem Ourselves in the FKF Cup

The Green Army will face National Super League champions Nairobi United in what promises to be a high-stakes clash next weekend.

“We’re in the FKF Cup final, and it’s our chance to redeem the season — not just for ourselves but for our fans,” Otieno added.

“It’s important we finish on a high and give them something to smile about.”

Both Gor Mahia and Nairobi United reached the final through nail-biting penalty shootouts — Gor edging past Murang’a Seal 5-4 and Nairobi United dispatching Mara Sugar 3-1.

As Gor Mahia prepares to turn the page, Otieno’s apology reflects not just accountability, but leadership. It’s a message of humility, defiance, and hope — one that aims to reunite a fanbase momentarily shaken, but far from broken.
