The heavy rains, which started pounding Kisii town from 1 pm to 2.30 pm made the ground unplayable.

It was a hectic afternoon on Wednesday as the youth struggled to clear water from a heavily waterlogged pitch at the Gusii Stadium which forced the National Super League (NSL) clash between Shabana FC and Mully Children’s Family (MCF) to be postponed

The already promoted team was hoping to leapfrog league leaders Murang'a Seal at the top of the table in order to stand a chance of ending the season as NSL champions, but the clash has been rescheduled to Wednesday at 11 AM

The heavy rains, which started pounding Kisii town from 1 pm to 2.30 pm made the surface unplayable, leaving the match commissioner Fred Wafula with no choice but to postpone the clash.

The youth were pictured clearing the water from a waterlogged pitch, as exasperated fans in the stadium expressed their disappointment at the game having to be postponed

“We have decided the game be played on Wednesday at 11 am because every effort to clear the water has failed. Efforts to secure an alternative field also failed,” said Wafula.

Questions have been raised over the suitability of the stadium to host KPL games because of the poor drainage and lack of an inner perimeter wall.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati promised to re-do the drainage and construct the perimeter wall before the league kicks off in August.

“We have already allocated funds for works on the retainer wall, the playing field, and the inner perimeter fence,” said Arati, who was also named the club patron during the Shabana luncheon in Nairobi last week
