Real Madrid have paused contract talks with Vinicius Junior amid his demands for a salary higher than Kylian Mbappe's.

Real Madrid are facing a major roadblock in their efforts to extend Vinicius Junior’s contract, with the Brazilian forward demanding a salary that surpasses that of Kylian Mbappe.

The 25-year-old winger, who joined Real Madrid in 2018 from Flamengo in a €45 million move, is reportedly seeking a new deal worth around €30 million per year along with a significant signing bonus.

This would place him above Mbappe, who currently earns €31.3 million annually before tax, as per transfer expert Nicolo Schira.

Salary Demands Creating Friction

Vinicius currently earns €20.8 million per year, and while his contributions to Real Madrid have been immense — 22 goals and 19 assists in 58 appearances last season — the club is hesitant to meet his elevated demands.

The emergence of Mbappe as the marquee man at the Santiago Bernabeu may have intensified Vinicius' stance, as he believes his value to the team warrants equal or better financial recognition.

However, the club's top brass is reportedly unwilling to engage in a bidding war, especially with interest in the player growing from Premier League and Saudi Arabian clubs.

According to journalist Jorge Picon, Real Madrid have chosen to postpone negotiations with Vinicius for the time being.

The Brazilian remains under contract until the summer of 2027, giving the club some breathing room to reassess their stance as the season progresses.

Despite the stalemate, Vinicius continues to be a key figure in Real Madrid's setup and retains a market value of €150 million, according to Transfermarkt.

With European and Middle Eastern clubs monitoring the situation closely, Madrid will need to tread carefully to avoid losing one of their most valuable assets either to free agency or via a transfer they did not anticipate.
