Tusker assistant captain Michael Kibwage is keen to bounce back to winning ways against AFC Leopards to avoid losing ground in the title race following last week’s defeat.

Tusker defender Michael Kibwage is still reeling from his side’s 2-1 loss to Mathare United last weekend which saw them drop from top spot in the FKF Premier League.

The Brewers were enjoying a two-point lead over second-placed Kenya Police but the loss saw the law enforcers move back on top while Gor Mahia closed in after their big win against Mara Sugar.

Police now lead the standings with 52 points, Tusker on 51 while Gor have 50, and Shabana are also threatening to crash the title party as they sit fourth on 46 points with six games remaining.

That has increased pressure on Tusker and Kibwage feels there are no margins of error now as they have to win their matches, beginning with Saturday’s home clash against AFC Leopards.

“It was very painful to lose that match,” Kibwage told Telecomasia.net regarding the loss, which saw his team take a 1-0 lead before Musa Masika’s brace sunk them.

“We had very good control of the game but lost concentration at crucial points. We also didn’t play well in the second half. But we have picked valuable lessons from that game. As much as it was a result we did not want, we have to pick ourselves up for the remaining games.

“We still have a very good chance and we have to make sure we do not drop any more points. The games ahead of us are tough and we need to fold our sleeves and work harder,” added the Tusker assistant captain.

Leopards will offer a different challenge to Kibwage and his team-mates as Ingwe have been blowing hot and cold although they head into the game in a confident mood after ending their seven-match winless run by beating Bidco United 3-1 last weekend.

What will also add more belief to Leopards is that they recorded a comprehensive victory the last time they played Tusker, having thrashed Charles Okere’s team 4-1 in December 2024.
