Kenyan referee Peter Waweru Kamaku has been appointed as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup final match between Yanga (Tanzania) and USM Alger of Algeria, which is set to take place on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
Kamaku will work alongside a team of officials, including Zenith Makarima from South Africa as Assistant 1 and Mohamed Abdallah Ibrahim from Sudan as Assistant 2.

The Tanzanian giants outclassed their penultimate opponents by picking up a 4-1 aggregate win.
The 40-year-old arbitrator has experience as a VAR referee, having served at the 2022 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) held in Algeria.
Kamaku has also enjoyed the privilege of handling several Caf Champions League games; Confederation Cup matches, and Fifa World Cup qualifying matches since 2017.

A mathematics lecturer at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Kamaku has been a member of the 20 CAF/FIFA Professional Referee pioneer group since 2020.
The match between Yanga and USM Alger is expected to be a nerve-wracking encounter between two top teams.
